Diego at One Month!!

I can't believe how time flies!! Diego is now over one month and weighs 8 pounds. He smiles a lot and loves to go for walks in the sun. He also seems to love purple..interesting.(no influence from me of course) He are some artistic shots of the little man and also some pics from Easter with his grandparents. Check out those incredibly long toes!

Diego's First Road Trip

When Deigo was two weeks old we went to Tulancingo to the weekly market and to spend time in the center of this cute little town. Diego went to the market and we bought this adorable wool poncho made by a local woman who is in the photo above. Also, another vendor took a picture with us as well. We went to the park in the center where we took a picture with our friends after a great breakfast in the famous Colonial restaurant here. Finally a photo with Grandpa Wences and cousin Sofia of course wearing his favorite purple hat!

Day of the Dead

Every year on November 1 and 2 they celebrate The Day of the Dead here in Mexico. Altars are decorated to remember those who have died. The altars are adorned with flowers, foods and drinks to welcome back the dead relatives. Here is a picture of one we had in the school. Now we are getting ready for Christmas and decorating again. I thought I would send a picture of the school and Erik working in the kitchen to show you where we are working most of the time!! Take care everyone:))

Tequisquiapan

This is a beautiful town we went to last weekend. It is about 2 hours and a half north of Pachuca. It is very popular with some foreign tourists because the weather is about 25 degrees all year round. It really is picturesque with lots of beautiful colonial architecture and flowers everywhere. Also, the places to stay are really cheap!! Our place was great because there was a pool and lots of orange trees. You can buy many hand-painted ceramics and linen clothes here too!! It was a great weekend away just to relax!

Teaching at Harmon Hall

Teaching at Harmon Hall Pachuca has been really fun because the students are really motivated!! This is the biggest of the Harmon Hall Institutes here in Hidalgo. It is a really large school will four levels and lots of great teaching equipment. Pachuca is the capital city of Hidalgo so we have students from many villages and cities nearby too. I am teaching in the afternoons and evenings as well I teach private classes too. I am taking a few classes on my own...Spanish and painting...it is nice to be a student. Here are some pictures of our parties and presentations!!

Summer In Mexico!!

Well, the summer is almost over but I am finally updating the blog!! We went to Tabasco, a state seven hours south of Hidalgo. We were going for a conference but mostly to see the sights. We stayed in Villahermosa which is the capital city of Tabasco. It is a beautiful city with rivers and lots of parks. It was created by the oil boom in the seventies in this state. We stayed at a great hotel which was paid for by the conference!! yeah!! It is really humid and rainy in this city so the flowers and parks are amazing. We also found an indoor skating rink!! weird!

After a few days in Villahermosa, we visited Palenque in the state of Chiapas. This is another incredible group of pyramids built by the Mayans. There were found in the lush tropical rainforest that surround this area. There were many hand crafts and beautiful clothing everywhere for sale.We ate in the village of Palenque during the afternoon rainfall. It was beautiful but there is a lot of poverty among the indigenous people in this area.

On the way back to Hidalgo, we stayed in the infamous village of Catemaco, Veracruz. Here, this sleeping town on the edge of a beautiful lake is home to many shamans and healers famous throughout Mexico. People come here to have cleanings with herbs and special plants. We visited a healer and I had a cleansing. It was really interesting and he explained about his work and why he did it. So it was a really interesting trip and we drove back along the coast to return to Hidalgo.
