Summer In Mexico!!

Well, the summer is almost over but I am finally updating the blog!! We went to Tabasco, a state seven hours south of Hidalgo. We were going for a conference but mostly to see the sights. We stayed in Villahermosa which is the capital city of Tabasco. It is a beautiful city with rivers and lots of parks. It was created by the oil boom in the seventies in this state. We stayed at a great hotel which was paid for by the conference!! yeah!! It is really humid and rainy in this city so the flowers and parks are amazing. We also found an indoor skating rink!! weird!

After a few days in Villahermosa, we visited Palenque in the state of Chiapas. This is another incredible group of pyramids built by the Mayans. There were found in the lush tropical rainforest that surround this area. There were many hand crafts and beautiful clothing everywhere for sale.We ate in the village of Palenque during the afternoon rainfall. It was beautiful but there is a lot of poverty among the indigenous people in this area.

On the way back to Hidalgo, we stayed in the infamous village of Catemaco, Veracruz. Here, this sleeping town on the edge of a beautiful lake is home to many shamans and healers famous throughout Mexico. People come here to have cleanings with herbs and special plants. We visited a healer and I had a cleansing. It was really interesting and he explained about his work and why he did it. So it was a really interesting trip and we drove back along the coast to return to Hidalgo.
